Given

[tex]5x-2y=17[/tex]

Set x=3 and solve for y, as shown below

[tex]\begin{gathered} x=3 \\ \Rightarrow5*3-2y=17 \\ \Rightarrow15-2y=17 \\ \Rightarrow-2y=2 \\ \Rightarrow y=-1 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Therefore, a solution to the equation is the ordered pair (3,-1).

(3,-4) cannot be a solution to the equation.
