If Ally has to make a cake 48 inches long and already has 1/2 complete we can complete some simple math to determine how much is left for her to complete.
48 inches - 1/2 inches = 47 & 1/2 or 47.5 inches.
Therefore Ally has 47 & 1/2 inches left of the cake to make.
